Academic requirement
The NCISM rules are specific about subjects as well as marks:
- Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English studied and passed individually at 10+2
- 50% aggregate in Physics, Chemistry and Biology taken together — general category
- 40% aggregate in PCB — Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and Other Backward Classes
- 45% (general) or 40% (reserved) for candidates with benchmark disabilities under the RPwD Act 2016
NEET percentile you need
The qualifying bar is a percentile, not a fixed score, so it moves each year with the difficulty of the paper:
- General category — 50th percentile
- SC, ST and OBC — 40th percentile
- Benchmark disability, general — 45th percentile
- Benchmark disability, reserved — 40th percentile
Age rule
You must have completed 17 years on or before 31 December of the year of admission. The NCISM regulation sets an upper limit of 25 years with a five-year relaxation for SC, ST, OBC and physically handicapped candidates; always read the current year's counselling notification, since the upper age limit has been challenged and revised.
Qualifying with a lower percentile
When too few candidates in a category clear the bar in a given year, the Central Government in consultation with the Council may lower the minimum percentile for that year only. That relaxation applies to the specific academic year and is announced before mop-up counselling.
