What the department covers

Agada Tantra covers visha (poisons) of plant, animal and mineral origin, their classical management, snakebite and sting protocols, plus modern forensic medicine, autopsy principles, consumer protection and the legal duties of a registered practitioner. This is the department that keeps a graduate on the right side of medical law.

Where it sits in the course

This subject is taught in the second professional year of the BAMS programme at Sri Paripoorna Sanathana Ayurveda Medical College, Hospital and Research Centre, which runs 5 years 6 months (4½ years academic + 12 months compulsory rotatory internship) and is examined by Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS), Bengaluru. Practical work is supported by the department's own museum or laboratory and, for clinical subjects, by postings in the attached NABH-accredited teaching hospital.
