What the department covers

Students work in a pharmacy laboratory preparing classical dosage forms from scratch and learn the shodhana and marana processes used for mineral and metal preparations. Quality control, standardisation and Good Manufacturing Practice requirements for AYUSH drugs are covered, which is directly useful for graduates who move into the Ayurvedic pharmaceutical industry.

Where it sits in the course

This subject is taught in the second professional year of the BAMS programme at Sri Paripoorna Sanathana Ayurveda Medical College, Hospital and Research Centre, which runs 5 years 6 months (4½ years academic + 12 months compulsory rotatory internship) and is examined by Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS), Bengaluru. Practical work is supported by the department's own museum or laboratory and, for clinical subjects, by postings in the attached NABH-accredited teaching hospital.
