Dravyaguna Vijnana (Ayurvedic Pharmacology)
What the department covers
Dravyaguna trains students to identify medicinal plants in the field and to reason about their action through rasa, guna, virya, vipaka and prabhava. The campus herbal garden covers roughly 3,100 square metres with about 200 species and 2,546 plants plus a demonstration room, so identification is learned from living specimens rather than photographs. A departmental museum holds authenticated raw-drug samples.

Where it sits in the course
This subject is taught in the second professional year of the BAMS programme at Sri Paripoorna Sanathana Ayurveda Medical College, Hospital and Research Centre, which runs 5 years 6 months (4½ years academic + 12 months compulsory rotatory internship) and is examined by Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS), Bengaluru. Practical work is supported by the department's own museum or laboratory and, for clinical subjects, by postings in the attached NABH-accredited teaching hospital.
