First professional year
Samhita and Siddhanta
What the department covers
This department teaches the source texts and the darshana behind them. Students read Sanskrit verses, learn the padartha vijnana framework and the rules of interpretation (tantrayukti) so they can reason from first principles instead of memorising treatment lists. The college's gurukula orientation is strongest here — Vedanta and philosophy of life are taught to shape character alongside clinical skill.
Core topics
- Charaka Samhita
- Sushruta Samhita
- Ashtanga Hridaya
- Padartha Vijnana
- Sanskrit & tantrayukti
Where it sits in the course
This subject is taught in the first professional year of the BAMS programme at Sri Paripoorna Sanathana Ayurveda Medical College, Hospital and Research Centre, which runs 5 years 6 months (4½ years academic + 12 months compulsory rotatory internship) and is examined by Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS), Bengaluru. Practical work is supported by the department's own museum or laboratory and, for clinical subjects, by postings in the attached NABH-accredited teaching hospital.
